The Third Week

When we got to Bethlehem School this morning, our group got to start off doing robots in the library. We programed our bump sensors on our robots quite well and we made them bump into a lot of obstacles.

Then we had to try to program light sensors. We managed to program the robot with light sensors but didn't have time to see the robot work but at least the Year 4's know how to program touch and light sensors now. In block 2 we could work in the hall with forest maps. We went outside to gather some  twigs and rocks for our map and we managed to cello-tape about 10 sheets of paper together for our forest. Our group also decided we'll have a tunnel, rocks which we have to drive around and some twigs we have to go over. On the way back to OIS we got drenched in the rain and we had to wear PE uniform the rest of the day.

Next time I'm hoping  to get more of the map done and learn how to program more sensors.

The success of today was programming the bump sensor and getting it to go into obstacles then reverse, turn around then go forward again.

Can't wait till next week.

The Second Week

Today, we first did the planning out of our Hansel and Gretel rescue map. That was probably the easiest part of the day and it ran quite smoothly. Then after morning tea, we switched over with the other groups and started on the challenge. The challenge was to program the NXT to drive through two bottles in a figure eight. We taught our buddies the basic controls for programming the NXT from a laptop. Doing the challenge was really frustrating. The robot kept bumping into the bottles. Even when it dodged the first bottle it would always hit into the second bottle. In the end, we didn't get to finish the challenge. Apart from that, the day was pretty fun. Then at 12:30, we had to begin our long, hot and tiring bike ride back to school. Can't wait to go back next week!
